November was an exciting month for Dance at Ryedale School. It started with a trip to York Theatre Royal to see Phoenix Dance Theatre. 45 students from Year 7-10 enjoyed the artistry, athleticism and drama of one of the UK's leading contemporary dance companies.
Following this, a professional dancer from Pheonix was invited into school to do a series of workshops based on their current repertoire. This was an exciting, creative and challenging opportunity. Pupils were put through their paces in a technique-based warm up and then taught material from a piece of work they saw live on stage the previous week. The year 10 GCSE Dance group ended the evening with a very strong piece of work based on the work initiated by Phoenix, as part of the Dance and Drama Evening, held in the Paul Shuttleworth Drama Studio on November 22nd. It certainly reflected the success of the "Phoenix" project.
