On Wednesday 4th and Thursday 12th December, Cantarla were fortunate to be asked to sing in the Long Gallery at Castle Howard. We enjoyed performing in such a beautiful room, particularly as the house is decorated so spectacularly for Christmas.
The programme we sang was a mixture of traditional carols, some of our favourite repertoire, including The Water is Wide, with a lovely solo verse by Katie Coppack, The Chain, and some new Christmas repertoire, including Winter's Tale by Mike Batt, and Sure on this Shining Night, by Morton Lauridsen, with Elise Symes-Turnbull, Rebekah Lally and Hannah Woodward singing solo sections.
We were also joined by our A-Level music students, who performed two arrangements of carols by the folk singer, Kate Rusby. Mark Fortnum performed a medley of In a Sentimental Mood by Duke Ellington, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on alto saxophone, and Elise Symes-Turnbull sang Domine Deus from Vivaldi's Gloria. Both afternoons were lovely occasions, and everyone performed excellently.
